Based on a conversation I had this past Shabbos, today's blog is inspired by a fellow traveler. He reminded me that there is no rule that requires that any of us continue in the same default reality with which we woke up.
Our days are defined by the thoughts that we think. There is no outside monitor that demands that our ideas fall into pre-subscribed categories. There is no measuring stick that limits the heights to which our dreams, aspirations, or desires can rise. Unfortunately, the opposite is true.
It is entirely within our capability (emotional, spiritual, and compassion level) to reach whatever internal goal we set for ourselves.
Allow me please to make this personal. I have no greater desire, okay I have a couple, then to facilitate great futures for my kid and to express physical wellness in this world.
Today, there may not be very much that I can do now will be manifest. But the one thing that I can do is to raise the roof on my wishes for the best outcome possible, and be totally joyful about what is.
I go back to what I've said repeatedly. This is not easy, although it is as simple as flipping a switch.
How you might ask, could I be more okay with what is than I was yesterday. Yesterday is the default program. It's my job to discover what trigger I will use to send me soaring.
Today it's easy. My morning aide, Diana, came in with the news that she has plans to be married. It's my job to be as joyful for her as she is for herself. By the way, the universe seems to support this. The man that she plans to marry lives in Hawaii. As I was going through books to give away, anticipating my upcoming move, we just happened to come across three books that described the highlights of Maui, and Kauai.
Don't just decide to be more joyful, search for the evidence that you can be. More importantly, don't limit yourself to what you already know.
