Warren when she enters the home of Tessa Leoni, a fellow cop who admits to having just killed her abusive husband. She certainly looks like she’s gone 10 rounds. But of more concern to D.D. is Tessa’s missing child. Where is 6-year-old Sophie? Having just learned she is expecting a child of her own, a fact that’s put her soon-to-be-husband, Alex, over the moon—D.D. is particularly sensitive to the little girl’s fate, and finds it troubling that Tessa, who’s been read her rights, isn’t talking. In Love You More, Lisa Gardner’s chilling new thriller, psychological suspense is the name of the game, and she proves she has no rival as a homicide suddenly becomes a desperate race to find a missing child. Sophie’s trail proves exhausting to follow as one twist and turn after another leads D.D. to the same brick wall: Tessa. What’s her role in all this? Annette Gordon-Reed shows how ill-suited Johnson was for this effort. His vision of reconciliation abandoned the millions of former slaves and antagonized congressional leaders, who tried to limit his powers and eventually impeached him. The climax of Johnson’s presidency was his trial in the Senate and his acquittal by a single vote, which Gordon-Reed recounts with drama and palpable tension. Ultimately, she portrays Johnson’s term in office as a crucial missed opportunity that left America with problems we are still trying to solve. Belva Plain’s compelling tale opens in a small New England town where we meet Gwen Wright, a daughter of privilege, and heiress to a powerful business empire. Perhaps it’s knowing she’s adopted that stops Gwen from following in her formidable mother’s footsteps, preferring instead the company of books and music. Only when she meets Jewel Fairbanks, her mother’s stunningly beautiful assistant, is plain Gwen’s idyllic world rocked—by intense jealousy. Yet Jewel, too, is seized with envy, coveting the vast wealth Gwen so casually disregards. As the story unfolds, the women become tentative friends, eventually choosing men who, each believes, reflects her true heart—in Gwen’s case, a sweet-natured blue collar laborer. But Jewel’s marriage to a ruthlessly ambitious man will ultimately bring them all to a crossroad in their lives, triggering a chain reaction to events that will have shocking repercussions.... In this novel about mixed blessings, competition and bitter envy, Belva Plain, as always, reminds us of the power of love to heal and transform. Kahn Publisher: Basic Books Inc., September 07, 2010 Review: Cities are the engines of economic growth and the foundation of our prosperity. But as Earth warms, what will become of them? In Climatopolis, Matthew Kahn argues that they will adapt to hotter temperatures along with their populations. Taking us on a tour of the world’s cities from New York to L.A., Beijing to Mumbai, he offers an ingenious vision of our urban future. By 2050, for example, San Diego’s sea level may rise 12 to 18 inches, and its average annual temperature may increase by 4.5° F. The region will require 37% more water although sources like the Colorado River will shrink 20% or more. The fire season will start earlier, and peak electricity demand will increase by more than 70%. Yet the problems faced by American cities are benign compared to those facing other regions. Climate change, says Kahn, is likely to increase urban density in the poorest parts of cities in less developed countries; this will bring with it the dangerous risk of contagion from infectious diseases such as cholera. Cities such as Dhaka, Jakarta, Manila, and Calcutta—each close to the sea, regularly hit with natural disasters, and already quite hot—may take the brunt of the blow. Despite dire predictions, Kahn is ultimately optimistic. Although it is too late to reduce the trend toward higher temperatures, he sees cities overall continuing to operate through the 21st century. A huge opportunity exists for innovation that can meliorate the worst effects of warming; he suggests that manufacturers of more efficient air conditioning technologies that require less electricity than needed at present stand to make fortunes, while the engineering of new seawalls may mitigate mass flooding. Climatopolis is a clear-eyed guide to the cities of tomorrow. The Anti-Communist Manifestos Four Books That Shaped the Cold War John Fleming Publisher: W.W. Norton & Co. Inc., August 01, 2009 Review: Among the complex origins of the Cold War, we should never underestimate the role of literature. In The Anti-Communist Manifestos, John Fleming explores four books that altered the course of history: Darkness at Noon (1940), by Arthur Koestler, a Hungarian journalist and polymath intellectual; Out of the Night (1941), by Jan Valtin, a German sailor and labor agitator; I Chose Freedom (1946), by Victor Kravchenko, a Soviet engineer and Witness (1952), by Whittaker Chambers, an American journalist. While the four volumes at the heart of Fleming’s book are fundamentally different from one another, they share striking similarities. The authors were all ex-Communist Party members whose bitter disillusionment led them to turn on their former allegiance in literary fury. Koestler was a rapist, Valtin a thug. Kravchenko, though not a spy, was forced to live like one in America. Chambers was a prophet without honor in his own land. Three of the four had been underground espionage agents of the Comintern. All contemplated suicide, and two of them achieved it. Fleming’s humane and ironic narrative of these grim lives reveals that words were among the true driving forces behind the Cold War. If only they had known sooner that their child was suffering from a rare disease that guarantees she will suffer hundreds of broken bones as she grows, ensuring a lifetime of pain. Imagine the O’Keefe’s shock when they learn their ob-gyn overlooked crucial, early signs of Willow’s debilitating condition while the baby was in utero. Overwhelmed by enormous medical expenses, Charlotte considers filing a wrongful birth lawsuit. But can she stand up in court—in front of her child—and say that she should have been given the choice whether or not to terminate her pregnancy? In some ways harder for Charlotte to bear would be turning on her doctor, who also happens to be her closest friend…. The Boston Globe says Jodi Picoult “writes with a fine touch, a sharp eye for detail, and a firm grasp of the delicacy and complexity of human relationships,” assertions that have perhaps never been more apparent than in this powerful story. But what’s evident to fans of this acclaimed author is that she never fails to touch our hearts, and Handle With Care is her most moving novel to date. Once a vivacious 16-year-old, Deena MacMasters’ lifeless body now lies in her bedroom covered in bruises that horrify even the most seasoned cops, foremost among them NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Eve was summoned to the girl’s home, a Central Park South estate, by Deena’s father, Jonah MacMasters—the NYPSD’s new captain. The Atlantic and Its Enemies A History of the Cold War Norman Stone Publisher: Penguin Group (USA), June 01, 2010 Review: Review by Geoffrey Wawro Norman Stone is a discerning historian, public intellectual and enfant terrible—even in his later years—but is most remarkable for his ability to put beautiful words and stories on a page. His Eastern Front (1975) remains the classic on that neglected half of World War I, and his Europe Transformed (1999) is a lively, scholarly romp through the crucial years 1878-1919. The Atlantic and Its Enemies, which spans the Cold War, is a treat worth waiting for. Stone’s portraits are sharp-eyed. Krushchev is “a coarse, little man, bullying in style, embarrassingly ignorant of Russian culture.” He rose above brighter men because he learned to play “the peasant clown” in Stalin’s long shadow, “and because he could handle the drink that Stalin poured into men, in the expectation that at some point their eyes would flash the truth.” Fidel Castro is “the illegitimate son (by his father’s cook) of a prosperous (and grasping) farmer.” Jimmy Carter was “a hapless fellow, everything sunny side up…a sort of sexless Clinton.” His “regime was desperately well-meaning; it jogged; it prayed; it banned smoking where it could; it sent bossy women to preach human rights in places where bossy women were regarded as an affront to them.” In all of his books, Stone dredges up piquant anecdotes. In this one, President de Gaulle curtly terminates an interview because his interviewer has moved slightly in her chair and crossed her legs. Culture is as much a part of this story as politics. The pill, for example, inaugurated “a new dimension in world history, freeing women from unwanted childbirth,” and making “feminism a fashionable cause.” The typewriter, which threw off secretarial jobs, “was an instrument of female emancipation.” Television became “the real queen of the battlefield, a mighty engine of egalitarianism, which simplifies and coarsens to the point of caricature the general spirit of a people. Stone’s take on American politics is fresh. He agrees with I.F. Stone that Kennedy was an “optical illusion”—a confection of the dazzled media—in the Princess Diana vein. Barry Goldwater was a good man and a sound politician who “maneuvered himself into grotesquely reactionary positions,” and thus “his electoral ship sank with all hands, though Ronald Reagan found a lifebelt. Reagan, like Thatcher, comes off well in the book. He pushes himself into the national debate and escapes a poor past—“his father a drunken failure, his mother a shrew.” He beats the Soviets, although Stone delightedly describes how they beat themselves. Reagan could not defeat America’s entitlement problem; he proved as helpless as all subsequent presidents in dealing with health care costs, which have surged along with the graying population. Reagan thought about reforming health care, but “was reduced to tinkering with cost caps,” accepting health care in the prosperous West “as a monster out of control. This vivid book is the best kind of scholarly entertainment; it is frothy, fun and illuminating at every turn. BUY NOW!!! ========================= David Crockett The Lion of the West Michael Wallis Publisher: W.W. Norton&Co, May 16, 2011 Review: Review by Elliott West A fabulously successful Walt Disney television series in the 1950s made Davy Crockett a historical celebrity. That fame lives on in the nostalgia of millions of baby boomers who recall humming the Disney theme song while wearing coonskin caps and shooting imaginary bears with toy rifles they called “Old Betsy.” In a way that’s too bad. As Michael Wallis shows in this fast-paced new biography, Disney’s airbrushed version of David Crockett’s story (he never went by Davy) masks a life that, by its famous end at the Alamo, was both more mixed and entirely fascinating. During his boyhood in eastern Tennessee, Crockett had only a few days of schooling before running away from his tavernkeeper father at 13. For more than two years he knocked around the country as a cattle drover, freighter and even an apprentice hatmaker. That anticipated a life of consistent itchiness that had him jumping from farming and hunting to soldiering and politics and eventually into an early version of American celebrity. A fine marksman and prodigious hunter—he once killed 47 bears in a month—Crockett married at 20 and sired three children before his wife, Polly, died, whereupon he quickly wed a widowed neighbor. He seemed to be away more often than at home, however, and experienced plenty of scrapes with violence and illness, including near-fatal malaria. During the War of 1812 he served in the Tennessee militia under Andrew Jackson, helping in an assault on a village that saw nearly 200 Creeks killed, four dozen of them burned alive in a cabin. The memory disgusted him. His popularity in the militia nudged Crockett toward politics. Gregarious and a natural storyteller, he found he had a gift for campaigning. He began as a state legislator and was elected to Congress three times (and lost twice) between 1826 and 1835. In the public arena he also exploited his natural bent for gab and brag. He was the model of the hero of “The Lion of the West,” the most frequently performed play on the American stage until “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” and, with ghost-writing help, he authored comic sketches, tall tales and in 1833 a popular autobiography. On a tour of the East he spoke to large and adoring crowds. Politically, however, he was in trouble. Today Congressman Crockett would be called a populist. His strongest stands were on behalf of small landholders and squatters and against speculators, and he also was alone in the state delegation in opposing a law to speed the uprooting and removal of southern Indians. This left him bitterly at odds with Jackson, his home state’s hero who now was president. Narrowly defeated in 1834, Crockett decided once more to take off in search of more promising fields. That would be Texas. He arrived as Texans were declaring independence from Mexico. Greeted everywhere “with the open arm of friendship,” Crockett was confident of a future in Lone Star politics. Instead he found martyrdom at the Alamo—and an enduring place in American folklore. BUY NOW!!! ========================= exchange server complete book athiest philosopher turned christian book The Second World War A Military History Gordon Corrigan Publisher: St. Martin's Press, Llc, November 01, 2011 Review: World War II has long been seen as a single conflict made up of multiple parts. With this colorful new history, Gordon Corrigan offers a landmark reassessment of the war, its origins and its prosecution. Corrigan argues that what we call the Second World War was in fact two separate conflicts: one against Germany (and, for a time, Italy) in Western Europe, Soviet Russia and North Africa; the other against Japan in the Far East and Pacific. Each conflict had distinct causes and had to be fought in different ways against very different enemies who rarely, if ever, coordinated their efforts. Alternating between the Russian, European, Asian and Mediterranean wars, the author uses this idea as a lens through which to view the course of the conflict, interspersing the chronological approach with enlightening examinations of Britain’s war experience, sea and air combat, and the impact of battle on the various home fronts. This is a cogent, revelatory account of an immense six-year conflict that continues to fascinate. Corrigan examines the manifold agendas of the warring nations and offers fresh and vivid interpretations, shattering myths about the effectiveness of the American and British war efforts, and giving the invaluable contributions of the Russian military their full due in thwarting what the German brass had hoped and anticipated would be “a short, sharp war. Corrigan makes the point that none of the nations involved in the hostilities—including the Axis powers—was militarily prepared for the conflict to come, and asserts that Germany and Japan could not individually have achieved world conquest even had they won the war—nor was their alliance likely to endure in the wake of a putative victory. In any event, Corrigan sees 1942 as the pivotal year in which a seemingly inexorable Axis advance became “an unremitting succession of desperate counterattacks and heartbreaking retreats. Britain’s own part in the war comes in for particularly close scrutiny: militarily, the British suffered an agonizing series of defeats before the tide turned. “Britain’s major contribution to the war was in not losing it in 1940,” Corrigan asserts. The country emerged economically broken, with the loss of her empire a virtual certainty. The scope of the present work is worthy of particular note: Corrigan integrates economic, technological and ideological analyses with ground-level views from the perspective of the common soldier. On this basis, the book recommends itself to an unusually wide-ranging readership. Vast in its erudition and epic in its execution, The Second World War: A Military History will change forever the way we think about the defining conflict of the modern age. The most controversial aspect of this book is the Clows' exploration of Mayan prophecies. Counter to the prevailing opinion, the fulfillment of the prophecies will usher in, not the Apocalypse, but an era of expanded human consciousness. They also assert that this new era begins on October 28, 2011, not December 21, 2012, making the time of the great shift just around the corner. This provocative explanation and road map for the future will be embraced by all who are interested in the evolution of human consciousness. At age 7, he completed his first assignment in Israel, and by his late teens, he was recruited by the PLO, trained as a terrorist and eventually sent to the United States on a mission that abruptly ended when a car crash—and some caring doctors—opened his eyes and changed the way he viewed the West. It is Saleem’s unique perspective as a former terrorist that makes The Blood of Lambs such a chilling and compelling read. A memoir of his indoctrination into jihad and his escape, it’s also a provocative and eye-opening insider’s expose on the hidden agendas, tactics and mindset of radical Islamic terrorists. And now the “desperate, armed and dangerous” suspect—wanted by the police for allegedly murdering seven people the night before—has them in his grip. Lee Coburn promises Honor that if they do as he says they won’t be hurt, leaving her no choice but to take him at his word. Master of War Blackwater USA's Erik Prince and the Business of War Suzanne Simons Publisher: Harper Collins Publishers, June 23, 2009 Review: Blackwater, the world’s largest private military contractor, became infamous when four of their men were murdered by a mob in Fallujah, Iraq. Since then, their men have been involved in major scandals, including a shooting spree after which the Iraqi government blacklisted the company. Based on extraordinary access to Blackwater founder Erik Prince, Master of War takes a first-ever inside look at this shadowy organization. As Suzanne Simons reveals, Blackwater is just the tip of Prince's empire, which also includes a private spy firm run by former CIA men and a formidable mini air force. She also paints a fascinating portrait of Prince himself—a true modern prince, held unaccountable to voters, the instruments of war at his disposal. BUY NOW!!! ========================= Civil War Wives The Lives & Times of Angelina Grimke Weld, Varina Howell Davis & Julia Dent Grant Carol Berkin Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf, Inc./Random House, September 01, 2009 Review: In Civil War Wives, historian Carol Berkin, author of the acclaimed Revolutionary Mothers, tells the stories of three fascinating 19th-century wives. Her first subject, Angelina Grimke Weld, was a successful abolitionist orator before she married fellow abolitionist Theodore Weld. The next two, Varina Howell Davis, the wife of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and Julia Dent Grant, wife of Civil War general and U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant, were more completely defined by their marriages. Examined together, these three women’s marriages provide unique perspectives on the turbulent times they lived through and on the social forces that guided and constrained the women of the day. Each of these wives left behind significant written records, allowing their stories to be heard in their own voices, rather than filtered through their famous husbands’ commentaries. And each story is fascinating. Angelina Grimke began life as a pampered and self-absorbed child of South Carolina’s slaveholding planter elite, then renounced her family’s values to become one of the most effective antislavery speakers of the 1830s and one of the first Americans to demand equality for women. Yet when she married her mentor, the abolitionist Theodore Weld, she abandoned her career as a public advocate for a life as wife and mother. Varina Howell, a child of Mississippi’s social elite, had an independent spirit that drew the disapproval of her husband and made her ill-suited to be the first lady of the Confederacy, yet served her well when she was forced to lobby for her husband’s release from prison after the war and made her a great social success when she moved to New York City after her husband’s death. And in Julia Dent Grant’s story we see the domestic archetype of the 19th-century American woman. The daughter of a successful Missouri merchant, Julia Dent lived a childhood she described as “one long summer of sunshine, flowers and smiles,” was swept off her feet by the man she loved, and sacrificed herself completely for her husband and his career. Only after she was widowed did she, in taking upon the task of memorializing her husband, finally find her own voice. Berkin finds common threads in these stories: all three women were born into slaveholding families but ended their lives in the free society of the Northeast. And they all had to grapple with—and resist or accept—the 19th-century ideology that regarded men and women as occupying separate spheres, with the latter always measured against an idealization of “true womanhood. Drawing from diaries, letters, essays, speeches and memoirs, Berkin brings these wives to vivid life, giving us an intimate look at their famous relationships, and revealing the joys and hardships of being a 19th-century woman. This Great Struggle America's Civil War Steven E. Woodworth Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield Don'T Use, March 28, 2011 Review: In 1862, Abraham Lincoln had told Congress that, in fighting the Civil War, “We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope on earth." Lincoln recognized what was at stake: not only freedom for 3.5 million slaves but also survival of self-government in the last place on earth where it could have the opportunity of developing freely. Two years later, in the spring of 1864, Lincoln had little to be happy about. Grant had failed to take Richmond. Sherman had not taken Atlanta. And the public was appalled, not only by the lack of progress of the Union armies, but by the horrendous casualties on the fighting fronts. And yet, the stakes in what Lincoln called “this great struggle” were so great that it was worth rising, in Lincoln’s words, “to the height of a generation of men worthy of a free government. Synthesizing a conflict as complex and deeply rooted as the Civil War is a daunting prospect, but with This Great Struggle, noted historian Steven E. Woodworth captures the war’s trajectory with remarkable facility while bringing its central themes into sharp focus. Woodworth delivers a crisp, chronological narrative that takes us from the opening salvo at Fort Sumter through the Reconstruction era. Along the way, he covers every theater of war (giving special emphasis to the importance of the action in the region between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River). But This Great Struggle is much more than a recounting of events. Throughout, Woodworth weaves the war’s central themes into the narrative. His balanced history at once takes in political and military developments, examines how the war affected social and cultural conditions, looks at the centrality of both slavery and the value of representative government to the war’s prosecution, and analyzes the viewpoint of the war as a completion and culmination of the American founding. Ulimately, Woodworth argues that the Civil War had a distinct purpose that was understood by most of its participants: it was primarily a conflict over the issue of slavery. The soldiers who filled the ranks of the armies on both sides knew what they were fighting for. In this, he contends, the war was truly a struggle for an America whose purpose was clearly—albeit differently—envisioned by millions. This Great Struggle will stand as one of the most compelling and insightful syntheses of America’s defining event. BUY NOW!!! ========================= An Irreverent Curiosity In Search of the Church's Strangest Relic in Italy's Oddest Town David Farely Publisher: Gotham Books, Penguin Putnam Inc, July 09, 2009 Review: In December 1983, a priest in the Italian hill of Calcata was shocked and horrified to find that the pride of their town, the foreskin of Jesus, had been stolen. Accusations flew wildly. Many blamed Satanists. Others thought that the priest himself was to blame. Some even pointed fingers at the Vatican. In 2006, travel writer David Farley moved to Calcata in search of the missing foreskin, and the result is An Irreverent Curiosity. Farley recounts the relic’s storied past, from Charlemagne to the papacy to a marauding 16th-century German soldier to its home in Calcata, and the book interweaves this strange history with his own travels. The result is perhaps the oddest story in all of Christian lore. BUY NOW!!! ========================= Jerusalem The Biography Simon Sebag Montefiore Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf, Inc./Random House, October 25, 2011 Review: Review by Gene R. Garthwaite Jerusalem's critical importance to the three great monotheisms hardly needs yet another book; nevertheless, Sebag Montefiore has written a masterful historical overview. His recounts the history of Jerusalem from King David to the 1967 Six Day War—he actually starts with A.D. 70 and the Roman destruction of the Temple—before going back to David. However, in an epilogue, he does bring that history to the present. In Jerusalem, Sebag Montefiore goes beyond religion and metaphor to examine the Holy City as lived, whether 1,000 years ago or today or with its idealization or messiness. The city's actual history, contrary to its metaphysical meanings, has seldom been peaceful. Sebag Montefiore writes about the city's broad social and cultural mix of peoples to emphasize the consequent multiple truths encompassed in "Jerusalem," in which each culture has attempted to undermine competing views so as to claim the city for itself. However, he sees this phenomenon as part of Jerusalem’s history; his commitment to “truths” will open him up to criticism from all sides. Sebag Montefiore is a superb storyteller and writes narrative history with depth and zest, which can be seen in his histories of Russia, particularly Young Stalin (2007). In addition, Jerusalem is based not only on apt anecdotes and detail, but an impressive reading of both primary and secondary sources, including Arabic ones that most generalists miss. Jerusalem itself is of special meaning to him, for Sebag Montefiore is a scion of one of Zionism’s founders, yet he writes with measure and detachment. Jerusalem is organized chronologically with a prologue, and moves on from David to the Jerusalem of antiquity and then to Islam; the Crusades and on to the Ottomans. Emphasis is given to the 19th century, with European imperialism and the formation of Zionism, and then the 20th century, with the emergence of the state of Israel and finally, to the 1967 Six Day War and, in an epilogue, to the present. Here, Sebag Montefiore recounts the continuing conflict and the changes in Jerusalem, including its expansion, continued violence and failed peace efforts, to observe: No deal can be agreed nor will it endure without something else. Political sovereignty can be drawn on a map…but it will be futile and meaningless without the historic, mystical and emotional. The real conditions for peace are…the heartfelt intangibles of mutual trust and respect…. If this book has any mission, it is to show that both sides have unimpeachable claims to Jerusalem, both ancient and modern. Sebag Montefiore closes with very human vignettes of living representatives of each of the major faiths continuing their millennial rituals on a daily basis. These stories characterize this rich, contradictory history in which violence and peace, the ridiculous and the sublime, saints and rogues coexist—the historical reality is hardly “Jerusalem the Golden.” The ending emphasizes the repetition of a very human history, in which there is conflict not just between but within each of the major faith communities that leaves little hope for any romanticized notions of a possible peace. Knopf, Inc./Random House, November 01, 2011 Review: In her first book since The Year of Magical Thinking, Joan Didion writes with stunning frankness about her late daughter, Quintana Roo, and offers a moving meditation on the challenges and surprises of growing old. Blue Nights opens as Didion thinks back to Quintana’s wedding seven years before and realizes that today would have been her anniversary. This fact triggers vivid memories of Quintana’s childhood, and as she looks back, Didion experiences the doubts and fears that any parent will find familiar. Did she fail as a mother? What mistakes did she make along the way? Also pondering her own mortality and her inability to adjust to aging, this is an intensely moving book, one that resonates with honesty, courage and truth. When William Henry Harrison died in April 1841, just one month after his inauguration, Vice President John Tyler assumed the presidency. It was a controversial move by this Southern gentleman, who had been placed on the fractious Whig ticket with the hero of Tippecanoe in order to sweep Andrew Jackson’s Democrats and their imperial tendencies out of the White House. Soon Tyler was beset by the Whigs’ competing factions. He vetoed the charter for a new Bank of the United States which he deemed unconstitutional and was expelled from his own party. In foreign policy, as well, Tyler marched to his own drummer, engaging secret agents to help resolve a border dispute with Britain and negotiating the annexation of Texas without the Senate’s approval. Casting an eye toward the controversial aspects of Tyler’s presidency, May sheds new light on a figure who set aside his dedication to the Constitution to gain his two great ambitions: Texas and a place in history. But there are plenty of shocks all through Long Lost, as Coben brings celebrity agent Myron Bolitar face-to-face with a love from his past, who may or may not have blood on her hands. Myron is pleased to see he‘s getting better at his sideline in sleuthing after he deduces, correctly, that his urgent summons to Paris at the behest of an old lover isn’t about rekindling their flame. But he didn’t expect to find Terese Collins the main suspect in a gruesome murder, the victim being her ex-husband. Terese swears she’s innocent, regaling Myron with the story of her marriage, assuring him it was good until the sad breakup she didn’t want, and never saw coming. But does he believe her, especially the part about not having heard from her ex until the phone call that brought her to Paris…and put her at the scene of the crime? Myron isn’t sure. And when a startling piece of evidence surfaces, baring Terese’s long-buried family secrets, Myron must seek answers that will take him where he’s never gone before, in a foreign country where nothing is as it seems.
